FOOD NORTHWEST PROCESSOR MEMBER SCHOLARSHIPS 

Every year since its 75th anniversary in 1989, Food Northwest and its Education and Research Institute have awarded scholarships to deserving students in the states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington.  The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage students to pursue a career in the food industry and to encourage and support industry employees to further their education.

Seven scholarships at $1,500 each will be awarded to students attending accredited colleges, universities, community colleges, trade or technical schools in Idaho, Oregon or Washington.

Eligibility

To be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
  • A full-time or full-time seasonal employee, or a family member of an employee, at a Food Northwest processor member company. 
  • Be currently enrolled (or enrolling) as an undergraduate or graduate student in a 4-year college or university, or enrolled (or enrolling) in a 2-year community college, accredited trade school or technical school.  If attending the University of Idaho, Oregon State University, or Washington State University, you have the option to apply for the University Scholarship.
  • Be pursuing a degree in an academic discipline and strong interest/intent to work in the Northwest food processing industry.  Disciplines include, but are not limited to, agricultural sciences, food science and technology, production, operations management engineering, horticulture, agriculture and resources economics, business management, accounting, environmental sciences, industrial systems, operator, process technician, control technician, electrician, maintenance, mechanic, refrigeration, sanitation.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • ERI Board of Directors, Officers, and their family members are not eligible

Scholarship Selection Criteria

The Board of Directors of the Northwest Food Processors Education and Research Institute will select the scholarship recipients based on the following criteria:
Commitment to a career in the food processing industry, e.g., internship or work experience in food processing or related fields 35%
Leadership and involvement in related extra-curricular activities and programs 25%
Grade point average  (Minimum 2.5 GPA) 20%
Financial need 20%
 

Selection Process

Application materials will include the following:
  1. A completed Application with your signature on page 4.
  2. Official transcript obtained from your college or school.  High school seniors submit an official high school transcript.
  3. Proof of enrollment in a college, university, community college, accredited trade or trade school.  Visit the Registrar’s office for this form or if available print web-based verification.
  4. A letter of recommendation signed within the past 12 months by a non-family member or student peer.
  5. Career Plans (see page 4 of the Application for details).

Awards

Applicants will be notified of their status in July 2021.  Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the university.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized on Food Northwest’s website and in Food Northwest publications.
